Our lovely little garden has this unpainted "weathered" fence around.
Unfortunately we have 3 neighbours owning "our" fence so if one of them say no we will not paint it.
Also there is the question of paint dripping on their side of the fence because of design of the fence. We are not sure if it is really worth it and if we are just not making big mistake.
So I taught that it will be nice to paint it nice medium brown colour. Also it will help protect the wood.
I have put together simple letter asking politely for permission to paint it.

Polite request for permission to paint/ stain fence
Hello,
We are your
neighbours at the back of your garden. We share 2 panes of fence. The fence is yours and we would like to ask
you for permission to paint/ stain it with protective medium brown fence paint.
We would be very careful do to a good job and minimise any paint/ stain
“dripping” on your side of the fence.
Please let us know if it is OK or not by returning this letter to us
(Please just put it in our letterbox).
Thank you very much.
