Chest of drawers & cot & bumper done!

This weekend we have picked up our new (second hand) chest of drawers for nursery. I have immediately started with sanding it down. I didn't want to have the very "orange" pine varnish on. Of course all done by hand. My husband helped me to take the handles off.

Also done this yellow chevron cot bumper.

This is during the sanding, sorry didn't take any pictures before. :-( Were in rush to start as there was rain in the afternoon!
It took me about 2 hours to sand it down .

Then about 1 hour to stain it.
I have used just interior stain in dark oak. This is the chest of drawers after 3 coats. Still missing some handles. They are on the way!

I have also bought some duck egg/ polka dot wrapping paper and lined the drawers.

Budget:
Chest of drawers - £51 (E-bay)
Stain - £4.45 (£8.90 for 750ml - used about 1/2)
Sandpaper - free (we already had + used already used)
Wrapping paper - £1.20 (used almost all)
handles - £18 (for 8 + shipping)
Total for chest of drawers : £74.65

Before we sold the futon, our second bedroom was very full.

And this is how our nursery looks now. Slowly getting ready. Chest of drawers will go instead of our TV stand (when TV stand will sell).  Cot bed finally dry. We were so exited that we were putting it together at 24:00 last night! Do you also see my new bumper? I have bought the basic Ikea white one from E-bay and spend half of Sunday sewing the cover for it. There was some break down of sewing machine between so no pictures of making it. :-) All fixed now (by myself).

I have bought about 1.7m of Riley Blake chevron medium yellow (but bought not enough of the grey one for the chair!). Cut it to fit the basic white wrap around Ikea bumper + used off cut of white bedding fabric. Sew all together and only left small holes to fit Ikea bumper ties through. Added Velcro in both ends. It makes putting it on easier. All done.

It is a little bit long for our small cot, but we just wrapped it around and it fits.

Budget:
cot - free
paint - £7.7 (£23/l - used about 1/3)
bumber - £8 (E-bay)
fabric yellow - £16 (£20 for 1.7m - will use the rest for the changing mat)
fabric white -  free (off cut from making covers for handmade blankets)
Velcro -  £0.13 (£7.83 for 25m! - used only about 40cm)

Cost for cot + bumper £31.83

Big pile of fabric for more of the baby DIY + bag full of staff for selling on E-bay.

There will be more changes in our new nursery. I am planing to do some wall art. :-)

Hanicka :-)
